Centre's melbourne blueprint
|
|
The client’s goal was to expand Lizard Centre beyond its existing Sydney and Adelaide presence by first setting up a blueprint space in Melbourne. One of our directors here at BRM has some family members with autism and has seen the success early intervention programs offer – so we were immediately interested in the possibility of working with Lizard Centre to achieve its goal.
THE BRIEF
Our first step was researching autism and design. And the first thing we learnt? There’s not a lot of information out there on the topic and the information that does exist is mostly conflicting or vague! So we pieced together information, and relied on strong input and feedback from our client, to tackle the brief. Prominent in the brief were the following:
THE RESULT
BRM Projects proudly delivered Lizard Centre’s Melbourne blueprint on time and on budget. We were proud to work on the project and learnt a lot along the way.
“BRM Projects was attentive, available and responsive. All important things in these types of projects". - Jeff Temple, Group Operations Manager.
THE BRIEF
Our first step was researching autism and design. And the first thing we learnt? There’s not a lot of information out there on the topic and the information that does exist is mostly conflicting or vague! So we pieced together information, and relied on strong input and feedback from our client, to tackle the brief. Prominent in the brief were the following:
- Selecting a building in the (affluent) inner south east of Melbourne with strong vehicular access and easy access into and out of the building
- Finding a landlord willing to offer a decent incentive to fund the fitout, accept a long lease and share in the vision of the Melbourne setup
- Ensuring the design was sensitive to the needs of autistic children who have filtering and attention issues (natural light, minimal distractions, no leading lines and colour choice were just some of the important issues)
- Ensuring other general design requirements for children’s spaces (line of sight, safety etc)
- The fitout needed to rate well quality-wise given the intention of the space becoming a permanent centre. Add a tight budget and a Sydney-based head office, and we certainly had some juggling work to do.

BRM Projects proudly delivered Lizard Centre’s Melbourne blueprint on time and on budget. We were proud to work on the project and learnt a lot along the way.
