Established through a collaborative process, cultural design considerations and reflection of First Peoples’ values feature in Sky Country.
Artist Mick Harding says of the rug designs “The shields represent all the emotions for people telling their truths. The designs and icons within them are unique to us here in the South-East. We have a unique story to tell about our recent history.”
Sky Country fosters formal and informal interactions through a series of intimate spaces to meet, gather and yarn.
Formal hearings will take place in the Hearing Room designed to maximise opportunities for truth telling
Occupying a large footprint the Hearing Room can be reconfigured through moving walls and furniture.
Quiet zones including a library create spaces to debrief, plan and collaborate.
Large staff communal area operates as a multifunctional gathering space including an operational kitchen for functions, a breakout space for meals and an informal team meeting zone.
Visual barriers are used to create separation with an understanding that there remains a connection between functional areas.
Colours and textures of the open plan working space reflect the brief to create a calm environment.
References to the natural landscape were incorporated into all selected materials. Priority was made to use First Nations furniture designers and suppliers.
